The Corruption of Kings
In 1 Chronicles, chapter 28, David is handing over the reins to Solomon. He says he's amassed all these treasures and wealth so that you can build a temple for the Lord. And then he says these words: "Solomon, my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart" The same thing is true for us when we turn our backs on the Lord, John writes. When we seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he'll cast you off forever.
