Hecphora is a platform for executing Python code at massive scale. The basic idea is that you should be able to write simple idiomatic Python and get the same performance as if you had rewritten it in C. We've been working on this for about five years, we have a totally separate runtime and compilation framework. It's still a work in progress but it's evolving pretty rapidly.
