Speaker 1
Palliative comes from the word palliare or the Latin for to cloak, as in to put a cloak over someone going through a storm. I love

beautiful. It's a gorgeous word, but it's become so ingrained that palliative is only end-of care that there isn't anything else we can do with that. And that scares people. It scares patients. It scares clinicians, physicians who are not ready to shift into that mindset or are not ready to embed it in their

ICU character. Welcome to Critical Care Time, the podcast for everyone who cares for the critically ill. I'm your host, Dr. Cyrus Askin, and I'm here with my co-host, Dr. Nick Mark. Nick, how is it going? I understand you recently made a trip to Korea with your family. How was that?
Speaker 3
Yes, it was an amazing family vacation. The flights were more successful than last time. No in-flight emergency. No kid puked on me. Korea was amazing. I got to go back. There's just so much to see. Amazing food. Yeah, it was great. I highly recommend. Yeah,
Speaker 2
I've got a couple of friends there and some of my former residents now that are working there. And I would love to make a trip back there. Or I should say, love to make a trip out there if ever possible. We

went to a baseball game there, which was kind of a high point. They have a word for chicken and beer combined together into one thing, which is brilliant. Not like, not like, not like beer battered. Like they have chicken on top of a beer. Like it's one unit. Um, God, they're also just so enthusiastic about their, their teams. Like they're just like cheering the whole time. Like us, us sports teams are like low energy by comparison. Yeah,
Speaker 2
man. Oh, I'm, I'm still stuck on the chicken and beer combination. That's like, it's like, so God, it's so next level. I love it. Um, so we're not talking about chicken and beer today. We're actually talking about something a little bit different, although I suppose chicken and beer could play a role. I don't know. So as you guys know, those of you that have been following along with us, uh, this season on critical care time, we've really tried to focus more on some topics that are less commonly covered by critical care media. For those of you keeping up, like I said, you've probably listened to episodes four and 21 from last season. And those are the ones where we've talked about delirium with Wes Ely. We talked about feeding in the ICU with Paul Wischmeyer. And then perhaps you listen to some of the recent episodes we've done on topics like telecritical care or Dr. Neville's Three Wishes initiative from this season. Right.
