Is the Market Economy Working in a Global Economy?
The financial models themselves had got so complex and so complicated that ordinary people couldn't really tell what was going on. Part of the problem was that the instruments themselves became so complex, and people didn't realize how vulnerable they were. But i think there was a more fundamental problem, and that wasReally the governments believed, had so much blind faith in the market that they really did believe that the market would deliver on equity, on freedom, on justice. Even when wealth didn't trickle down, even when the tide didn't prove to raise all boats, governments persisted in believing this. Have we yet worked out a way of defining responsibility for a global world? We haven't.
