How to Correct Hyponatremia in a Patient With Central Diabetes

The first step when this patient presents to the ER is resuscitation. Every attempt should be made to correct hypotension ASAP, protection of airway and if necessary using anti-epileptic drugs such as Lorezapam to control seizures. If a patient has central diabetes in Cipitas, vasopressin, DDAVP, along with replacement of urine output may be needed. The magic number is no more than 0.5 milliquivalence per liter per hour with the max of 12 to 15 in 24 hours. Remember, high to low, the brain will blow.
