I think one of the reasons it calls attention to itself and jumps out is it's asking for a much larger suspension of disbelief because if I read something in third person I can sort of pretend that this pirate existed at some point. Second person says you were a pirate and you had a ship and I'm like but I'm not a pirate and I don't have a ship so there's an extra leap with second person. Even though I'm the you here I'm not me as a person I'm being asked to embody the character as I read. It allows a level of empathy for the main character that feels sort of necessary.
