The Lion and the Unicorn

Virginia Woolf committed suicide on the 28th of March 1941. She drowned in the river ooze behind her house with her pockets full of stones. Her suicide note was misquoted as saying she couldn't bear to live through 1941. It provoked a furious reaction from some people, including members of the public who wrote into newspapers complaining that this privileged educated woman was somehow opting out.
