Covid was a unique moment in that way but it's actually not true. There've been a few points where something about as dramatic has happened like very quickly and i'm remembering like post 9-11 and the conversations then around national security and surveillance. People were being arrested for selling yiddish newspapers that opposed america's entry into a incredibly stupid and destructive and pointless war war in world war one. Rachel Maddow's podcast is incredible because you know she is defending essentially the government cracking down on nazis because nazis are bad and nazis were our enemy.
