Heparin is amongst the most common anticoagulant that we use in patients who require anticoagulation, especially when they're hospitalized. Patients can effectively form almost like an allergy towards heparin. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia causes platelets to clump and then activated platelets further release more platelet factor 4. So, you kind of just get this vicious cycle where you have more of the platelet factor4 in circulation, further potentiating the effects of hit.
