There is no tendency toward omitting initial t h sounds in the history of english. But there is a strong precedent for h sounds getting omitted, especially at the beginning of words. Not long ago, people pronounced words like wail and witch with an initial h sound. This original pronunciation can still heard in some english dialects. For example, it sometimes used in whatis called received pronunciation in britain. And it can also be heard in even older southern american dialects. The same pressure toward losing h sounds is found in many other languages including latin and french.
