Why We Are Lazy With Reason

This is because as an individual point of view, reason is not there to do the cognitive work. Rather, it is there to communicate why you think something and provide it in a format so that other people can then consume it and evaluate it. So this is definitely some evidence that reason has this particular social kind of function. It also helps explain why reason might be biased and lazy, meaning we don't really want to try very hard to come up with good reasons. And so this asymmetry that we are lazy with our own reasons and very critical of other people's reasons makes evolutionary sense.
