The Importance of Gift-Giving Rituals
Gift-giving rituals are deeply embedded in our DNA. It's embedded in the DNA of all prime meats, if I want to get a little bit more specific. Anthropologists have noted that male chimpanzees often offer gifts of food to female chimps. The Bedouin tribes of Arabia would give gifts to fellow tribes. They would do it to reduce tensions, to show good manners, and to keep the peace.
