Why Isn't There More Vocalising of the Anger?
There are lots of angry people out there, but why isn't there more vocalising of the anger? I think a lot of these museums and galleries rely on government funding big time. Also, let's not forget that the Conservative Government for the last few years have been putting a lot of their kind of stuges on those boards. There's a whole sense, I think people are cowed and kind of beaten down. Nicholas Sarota, former director of all the Tate's, now the chair of the Arts Council, who I felt kind of rolled over a bit when Nadine Doris issued this directive. Never have we needed our museums more.
