A group called Taroar Media in in New Zealand who for the last few years have been using machine learning to build translation systems between Maori indigenous language and culture of New Zealand. They reached out to almost all the Maori language kind of organizations in New Zealand to gather this corpus of tag speech literally just asking people to record themselves reading particular sentences but they got a huge response so they were capable of building an engine that equaled in power ones built by kind of large corporations.
