The fifth and last stage of Erickson's psychosocial development during childhood for the ages of 12 to 18 is known as identity versus role confusion. In this stage, kids are focused on developing a sense of personal identity. Teens need the opportunities to explore their unique expression and voice. Those who receive proper encouragement and reinforcement through personal exploration will emerge from this stage with a strong sense of self.
