How to Deconstruct Bad Ideas in a New Environment

Some of the things that we learned in academia would be considered sort of toxic if we use them in a different environment. The reflex to deconstruct is one that I don't know that it needs to be jettisoned. But also you don't want to be perceived as just cutting down somebody's argument or idea for the sake of it.
