Do we forgive Dumbledore for despite enabling all the horrible things that happen in Hogwarts coming in clutch at the end to save those students after all hell breaks loose? Because I think he doesn't want to get anybody actually in serious danger or trouble. So I think that he felt very confident that this was all going to work out.
