In may 18 94, three thousand pullman workers walked out of the shops. They were fed up with their low wages and high housing costs. Pullman wouldn't budge, insisting that there was nothing to arbitrate tas to quote. After this refusal to negotiate, the workers called for a massive strike. The next day the strike began.
