Asekius signed many vases as both the potter and painter. He was particularly known for his skillful portrayal of human emotion. Many of his works depicted events of the Trojan War. One such example is found in the vase depicting Achilles, killing Penthesalia,. Their eyes are locked onto each other, at the moment of her death. Other scenes show cobblers at work, fishermen returning with their catches, and butchers plying their trade. In the last third of the 6th century BC, some vase painters moved away from the black figure technique and began to create works in a red figure.
