The Strokes That Made Annette a Competitive Swimmer

At the age of 15, Annette told her parents that she wanted to start competing in swimming. In 1902, at about 16, she won a 100-yard championship for New South Wales. She also set a world record for swimming a mile with a time of 32 minutes and 29 seconds. Although she was winning races and making a name for herself as a competitive swimmer, she wasn't really able to earn an income from doing so.
