The Strategic Importance of Taiwan

Taiwan is not a strategic location. It goes back to when Mao Zedong and the Communist Party took over China in 1949. The United States officially doesn't recognize Taiwan as a country. We officially recognize that China and Taiwan are one China that operates under two systems. And that's our official stance. Very, very few countries in the world actually recognize Taiwan asa country.
