The Importance of Fear in Therapy

The brain's fear center is really turned down. It's like you're just turning down the volume on your amygdala for a recreational setting that might make you feel more social. Fear is obviously a very important part of life and it's not hard to imagine why fear was evolutionarily useful. We probably don't survive on the African savannah without knowing when to be scared, shit, listen, run. And so this feature of in DM8 not only takes us out of our own heads, but we're not feeling shame or worries or anxiety about judgment,. But we're more open to other people and that creates the space for real connection.
