I realized reading your book that I didn't pay enough attention in biology class apparently. To me, it's astonishing that the cells in plants and animals are so similar. These are these units of life that are universal. And they each have this incredibly sophisticated set of processes,. right, of organs or organelles. Do cells feel miraculous to you?Yeah, they feel miraculous to me, but there are three big laws that run through biology. The first is the theory of evolution. It runs through the entire animal kingdom...and explains everything we know about life.
Siddhartha Mukherjee is an oncologist, professor, researcher, and biotech entrepreneur. He’s also a writer, and a fine one at that. His first book, “The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer,” won a Pulitzer Prize. His second, “The Gene: An Intimate History,” shot to the top of the New York Times bestseller list and was made into a documentary by Ken Burns. In his latest book, “The Song of the Cell: An Exploration of Medicine and the New Human,” he says our radical new ability to manipulate cells is changing how we treat everything from Alzheimer’s to cancer.
