The Battle of Samoa
The Japanese were still pushing in the South West Pacific after Midway. There was a big fear that they would hit New Zealand, potentially Australia and Fiji. The U.S. decided to send six marine regiments of the second division to Iceland for garrisoning. These guys later became legends as some of the best NCLs and officers from the division.
