The Importance of Inequality
David Schmitz is a professor of philosophy in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona. He says that if you try to measure equality, you end up measuring things that don't have anything to do with the history of why equality has been a profoundly important revolutionary political idea. There are some kinds of inequality that amount to designating you or someone else is a second class citizen. Those are the kind of inequality that get eliminated when a society is making moral progress.
