How to Come to Know God Through Culture
Aquinas understood that most people's beliefs about god were formed in a social environment other than philosophy class. So a second non philosophical mode coming to know god is through culture. Many modern thinkers have explicitly developed accounts of the rationality of tradition and wisdom incoded in history and culture, john henry newman, hansgurg gottimer and alister macintyre,. Aristotle and plato also shared a deference to local custom and role of parents and common opinion in shaping belief.
