He sometimes spent over eight hours a day in the classroom during this period, almost as much as he had when he was still a student. His studies of military theory and work with Duté managed to combine his intellectual nature, martial inclinations, sense of duty to the army, and enthusiasm for action and progress all into one endeavor.
