Dietary cholesterol does affect serum cholesterol but nowhere near to the extent of saturated fat and I think that shows up in the keys equation. The reason main justification for de-emphasizing it in the current duost dietary guidelines was that it seemed like intake had gone down quite a bit already. There's now evidence that statins will do that if you drive cholesterol down too low and also a mandalian randomization showing that the genotype that is consistent with the gene that's regulated by statins that's also associated with higher hemorrhagic stroke.
