The Purifications of Empedocles

scholars usually attribute two main poetic works to Empedocles, the catharmoy or purifications and an on nature. But what does survive might in fact be not the remains of two poems but of a single poem. We don't really know, but my money is on the one poem hypothesis for what it's worth. It seems likely that the poem had two main parts, one cosmological and physical and one more ethical and perhaps dealing with things like metampsychosis and other religious topics.
