How to Make a Final Call on an ECMO Program
The most important thing is to split into two teams, if it's a potential ECMO candidate. The people who are working on cannulation cannot have any part in code management. It becomes an absolute task focused activity. There needs to be two teams, one to run the code and one to actually handle ECMO cannulation. If you're going to be at a center where the ED is a spot where potential ECMO cannulating or at least the access for eventual ECMO cannulations is happening, you want to have the right equipment ready there.
