Just handle social situations with grace and just be honest, as much as possible or always. And this includes like if you get yourself into trouble, like I've accidentally assigned someone to do something that was supposed to be the manager. You can even smooth things over where you can be like, I don't know that, but like I'm willing to check it out. Sure get the new hire to just take a peek and maybe write a little bit of the wiki on how to install it or something.
