The Spartan Hawks and the Athenians

By 475 BC, the aggressive foreign policy of the Spartan Hawks had been discredited by the disgrace of its two most powerful advocates. At some point in the late 470s BC, Pausanias was recalled to Sparta once again, from Byzantium. It's also in 472 BC that we see the first appearance of Pericles on a historical record. In fact, he would become a popular target of contemporary comedians who called him Squill A squill - which means large onion-like head. And so it was because of this reason that pericles always made sure to depict himself wearing a helmet during his early years.
