The British Steel Challenge
The British Steel Challenge was a challenge to take the next batch of Royal Mail to Australia. They set into the southern ocean and sailed down to Cape Town before setting off on their own. When they went there was nothing, they would hire a wheelbarrow and a shovel walk for two months into the outback in order to dig land. The crew included Joshua Slocum who is held up as the forefather of small boat ocean sailing today.
