Oil Prices Going Up, Will This Not Help the Russian Economy?
The narrative is that as long as oil prices are high, the Russian budget is doing pretty well. But what you're saying is actually this last decade started much earlier. So in 2008 on the heels of the global economic recession, Russia never comes out of that really despite the oil peak that we see of over $100 a barrel. A simple explanation is no matter how much money investments in this highly monopolistic bureaucratized economy don't work. On paper, there's fixed investment, but it does not generate any returns.
