i alex hading has spent all week end at the cambridge literary festival. i talked to julian barnes, who revealed this wonderful thing when described his book as being relatively sort of short. And he said, but not slim or slender. Never say that. Writers don't like that. You don't want o slender too. No, compact. I'm on the move this week.
