Holes are quite a metaphysically interesting entity, if indeed they are entities at all. So there is this big concept of nothingness, but there's also the way we encounter absences in our life. Some philosophers analyze holes and identify holess with the surrounding or the lining of the hole. But that also results in contradictions because imagine your eat a doughnut, the classic kind with a hole. You don't think you're eating the whole.
