In the meditations, descartes says he is not really doubting everything. He wants to know how much of that he can have. In mediaeval and mediaeval philosophy, we're not always talking about 100%. We're talking about ordinary certitude - real, genuine, normal certitude. And so to me, that's a failed ject of trying to always have 100 % certitude.
