The Rise of Private Military Companies in Russia
Wagner has the advantage. It seems of being rather more flexible than the conventional military, which is one of the reasons why it's often held up as some kind of exemplar for how Russia should be. But in some ways, the point is Wagner can work precisely because it is supported by the regular military. If one looks at others, we then actually have private military companies, which are beginning to shade more into mercenarying.
