LZ Granderson: It's almost easier when it's like, okay, I know you're the bat. And that can be a bigger form of betrayal. LZ: The best thing I ever learned about allyship was like, it's not about you. There's no way to deal with this stuff in the same way we are as humans. We need to stumble and get it right because we've got our babies to worry about.

Alicia Garza is an American Civil Rights organizer and writer best known for co-creating the international Black Lives Matter movement. Garza has become one of the most influential voices on the planet in a movement centered around the liberation of black people from authoritative systemic violence.

In 2013, three radical Black organizers — Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi — created a Black-centered political will and movement building project called #BlackLivesMatter. The project is now a member-led global network of more than 40 chapters.
