The Dark Ages
The phrase "the dark ages" comes from the end of the medieval period in the 14th century. In Italian that means Medio-Avo and in Latin, it's Medium-Avo,. It becomes English as medieval, M-I-D-E-V-I-L which is kind of half-bed and half-good. We're going to be talking about the 12th century Renaissance in topic 8; a Carolingian Renaissance soon enough in the year 800. Plus, you've heard of Henry the Ape, but who's Henry the Navigator? Hmm.
