Voodoo in the Caribbean

New Orleans is the northernmost Caribbean city. So that Afro-Caribbean culture being very strong sort of allowing the religion of voodoo to flourish. But I always like to caution people on a voodoo tour that initially it's not about true West African conversion. It's about them hiding West African religions within the iconography of Catholicism in order to keep their religions alive. Oh, so enslaved people were not allowed to keep their former religion and they had to worship the same religion as their Catholic overlords,. but they wanted to secretly keep their pre-slavery traditions as part of their way their children would grow up. Yeah.
