Charles Macintosh sued Thomas Hancock for patent on waterproofing fabric with rubber. The trial was reported in a periodical called Mechanics magazine, but the secret workings were not revealed. Just a few years after the lawsuit, a new technology emerged that totally changed the raincoat industry. Volcanized rubber was introduced in 1839.
