freemasonry was popular among the anglican gentry in virginia and jamaica. It also recruited many, many men, including clergy, from small anglican communities in new england. jewish men in england and then in the colonies started joining freemasonry as early as the ten twenties. And there is some pretty good evidence that freemason was also being practised in some jewish communities in the netherlands and in the colonies,. but that is much more dicy.
