Are the Solar Flares Localized?

Solar flares are like spots on the sun which generate intense bursts of radiation. Sometimes these are connected to corenal mass objections, but sometimes they're not. These coronal mass ejections can be a significant danger if their magnetic field is oriented in the right way. They could slip between the lines of our magnetic field and dump a lot of energy onto earth.
