Sola was deposed of his command by a plebiscite vote, an egregious move orchestrated by Gaius Marius and Silpicius. Sola wanted people to see that he was no tyrant, but a liberator. He held elections for the following year, and took special care to make sure they were conducted fairly and without undue pressure.
