John Wesley Wabel's Story
John Wesley Wabel was arrested on August 6th of 1953 for failing to return a rental car. The next day, police spotted his stolen car near Isleda, New Mexico and pursued it at 100 miles an hour. By the time they caught up with him, he had fled on foot but was later found by off-duty nurse walking toward homeless camp in Santa Fe. He insisted that he was innocent until being set free after confessing to be the turnpike phantom. On September 26th of 1955, Johnesley Wabel was executed via the electric chair.
