The disintegration we are witnessing from within this pull into the trenches of a grotesque new struggle for the integrity of our nation is no clandestine affair. An overwhelming sense of impotence pervades many of us as if we stand helpless against the surging tide intent on submerging our collective common sense, our culture, our institutions.
