It's very like the use to, but it's used with the imperfect in the past. We're using a wood here. This is wood. I would do something. But it's not that I would dosomething if I had the money. It's a different type of wood. This is this wood in the past, thinking back to times in the past and so on. So those are three situations where you would use the imperfect tense.
