The process of moving mercurial into the future forced us to build some of these layers that we go from the old mercurial design to the new. And in doing so, it opened the doors for sliding in a third implementation, which is Git. I'd love to see that kind of pattern take off in the source control industry and kind of enable future evolutions of this even if it's not sapling. We're now Git kind of just works.
