For the same purchasing power that a pound would have bought you in 2000, you now need £1.87. So inflation is picking up both as a result of demand still being relatively healthy and because of the cumulative effect of purchases increasing after the pandemic. But also at the same time, something we haven't really seen since the 1970s, many of the inflationary problems that we're seeing are due to limited supply.
